Main Introduction

This systematic program delivers the essential foundational training required for authentic Tai Chi practice. The curriculum is structured in three progressive modules: Tendon & Bone Stretching Exercises, Tai Chi Stepping Methods, and Internal Silk Reeling Skill.
Following the traditional Tai Chi training sequence, practitioners first open and mobilize the physical frame, then stabilise the lower body foundation, and finally cultivate internal spiral force. These stretching routines release fascia and free restricted joints to eliminate bodily stiffness. Tai Chi stepping builds a stable root and develops precise control over weight transition between empty and solid stances. Silk reeling training nurtures integrated spiral force and connects internal energy with external movement.
All exercises reject brute physical strength and prioritise relaxed sinking, circular fluidity and continuous motion. Consistent practice improves posture, supports healthy circulation, and builds clear awareness of Tai Chi internal force. This training forms the irreplaceable base for advanced form routines and pushing hands practice.

Module 1 – Tendon & Bone Stretching Exercises

Core Purpose: Stretch fascia throughout the body, expand joint space, lengthen the spine and torso flanks, restore physical elasticity, and prepare the frame to carry internal force.
Gaze Heaven & Press Earth
Raise one arm slowly upward with the palm facing heaven; sink and press the opposite arm downward toward the ground to create vertical opposing traction. Maintain an upright torso and keep the spine elongated.

Physical Benefits: Vertically stretch the full length of the spine and fascia across the chest, ribs and underarms. Correct rounded shoulders and hunched posture, expand the chest cavity to support cardiopulmonary mobility, encourage vertical energy flow and relieve lumbar and upper back discomfort.
Turn Head to View the Moon
Keep the torso stable and upright. Rotate the head slowly backward as if gazing toward the moon. Increase rotation gradually without forcing strain on the cervical spine. Allow thoracic spinal movement to guide the head and neck to create gentle spiral traction.

Physical Benefits: Mobilise small joints in the cervical and thoracic spine and release tense shoulder and neck muscles. Stretch lateral torso fascia, enhance spinal rotational mobility, ease stiffness caused by prolonged sitting, and build fundamental spinal spiral movement patterns.
Draw Bow to Shoot Tiger
Create opposing horizontal tension between the arms: one arm pushes forward while the other draws backward, replicating the motion of drawing a fully strung bow. Expand the chest fully, sink the shoulders, and generate opposing tension originating from the torso.

Physical Benefits: Stretch fascia surrounding the shoulder blades, chest and upper back to improve rounded shoulder posture. Expand shoulder range of motion, balance shoulder and back muscle strength, activate lateral torso soft tissue and enhance chest expansion capacity.
Heaven-Earth Reversal
Rotate around the waist and hips as the central axis. The entire body spirals synchronously with alternating upward and downward energy. Hands and feet follow waist rotation in smooth, continuous circular movement.

Physical Benefits: Develop coordinated waist and hip rotation and activate core stabiliser muscles. Gentle torso rotation stimulates healthy internal organ function. Improve coordination between upper and lower limbs and establish the core principle of torso-led movement.
Guided Practice of Tendon & Bone Stretching Exercises
Complete follow-along training combining Gaze Heaven & Press Earth, Turn Head to View the Moon, Draw Bow to Shoot Tiger and Heaven-Earth Reversal. Movements cycle at a balanced tempo for holistic foundational conditioning.

Physical Benefits: Systematically stretch full-body fascia and reduce general bodily stiffness. Help learners establish a steady training rhythm and build the habit of relaxed, intentional movement without brute force.

Module 2 – Tai Chi Stepping Methods

Core Purpose: Stepping is the foundation of Tai Chi. Training focuses on smooth weight shifting between empty and solid stances, relaxed hip joints, and silent, agile stepping. A stable lower root allows unobstructed transmission of internal force.
Forward Step
Extend the front foot gently forward, landing gradually from heel to sole. Shift body weight slowly and progressively with relaxed hips. Maintain an upright torso and avoid leaning forward.

Physical Benefits: Build lower limb strength and precise control over forward weight transfer. Mobilise the hips, knees and ankles. Correct the tendency to rush weight forward, protect knee joints and establish a stable base for forward energy transition.
Backward Step
Slide the rear foot gently backward. Allow the sole to make light contact with the ground before steadily bearing weight. Relax the hips, tuck the pelvis slightly, avoid leaning backward and preserve the central vertical body axis.

Physical Benefits: Strengthen posterior lower limb muscle groups. Master controlled backward weight shifting and fix the common fault of leaning back and losing structural root. Improve overall bodily balance.
Side Step
Shift feet horizontally sideways, with weight moving evenly left and right without vertical bouncing. Open the hips laterally while maintaining a stable frame. This step is widely used for horizontal deflection and neutralisation of incoming force.

Physical Benefits: Improve lateral hip mobility and relieve chronic hip tightness. Train controlled side-to-side weight transition and enhance capacity to deflect and redirect force horizontally.
Gliding Step
Feet glide closely above the ground with minimal lifting and quiet, gentle landing. Transitions between empty and solid weight are subtle and slow, classed as advanced stepping practice.

Physical Benefits: Refine precise lower limb control and deepen the skill of relaxed sinking. Reduce vertical weight fluctuation, boost foot sensitivity and fulfil the classic Tai Chi standard of stepping lightly like a cat.

Module 3 – Tai Chi Internal Silk Reeling Skill

Core Purpose: Silk Reeling Force represents the core internal power of Tai Chi. Driven by the dantian as the central axis, the whole body performs integrated spiral coiling movements, separated into Forward Coiling and Reverse Coiling for neutralising and issuing force.
Forward Coiling
Rotation originating from the dantian guides the arm to spiral outward from the inside. Wrist, elbow and shoulder connect sequentially to create unified whole-body spiral motion. This technique is primarily used to deflect incoming force and issue outward power.

Physical Benefits: Stimulate meridians along the outer arms and mobilise shoulders, elbows and wrists. Establish clear pathways for outward spiral force transmission, support healthy upper limb circulation and improve rotational mobility of the extremities.
Reverse Coiling
The dantian drives the arm to spiral inward. The skeletal frame twists in complete unison. This movement is mainly applied for storing power, drawing incoming force and neutralising external pressure.

Physical Benefits: Stretch fascia along the inner arms and balance muscle tension on both sides of the upper limbs. Build sensory awareness of inward wrapping force and strengthen coordination between the torso and upper limbs during spiral movement.
The Hidden Secrets of Tai Chi Internal Silk Reeling Force
This session addresses widespread misconceptions: isolated twisting of the arms alone does not constitute authentic silk reeling. Genuine silk reeling originates from the dantian and extends to all four limbs as unified whole-body spiral movement. Instruction focuses on how the dantian initiates force, energy transmission through the waist and hips, and distinguishes superficial limb twisting from integrated internal silk reeling.

Physical Benefits: Establish healthy, correct force generation patterns and prevent shoulder and neck strain caused by disconnected arm training. Open energy pathways connecting the dantian to the limbs, unite internal and external movement and drastically improve training effectiveness.
